2025 Tennessee Young Democrats Statewide Convention
May 24th at 1 pm - Bellevue Public Library, Nashville

The Tennessee Young Democrats are pleased to announce that our 2025 Convention will be held on May 24, 2025, at the Bellevue Library in Nashville, Tennessee. We are excited to welcome Young Dems from across our state to elect new officers, hear from some amazing speakers, and get a chance to network with Young Dems from all over Tennessee. The doors will open at 12:15 pm, and the Convention will begin promptly at 1 pm. The Convention should be over by 4:30 pm.
County chapters were provided a delegate selection plan from the TNYD Executive Board, and each chapter will pick who their delegates are. If you are interested in becoming a delegate for your chapter, please contact your local Chapter President. Those who will be running for office must fill out the nomination form. Nominations will not be allowed from the floor unless there is nobody running for a position. To be an elected officer, you must be 34 years or younger at the time of the election, a dues-paying member to either your local chapter or as an at-large dues-paying member to TNYD.

Description of Elected Positions
Every two years each elected position is up for re-election. Prior to this year's election, we want to provide an overview of each office and their duties. This is to help set expectations as we move into the next biennium.

President - The President shall be the principal administrative officer of TNYD, preside over meetings of the State Executive Board, be responsible for the organization’s fundraising efforts, and, except as may otherwise be provided, shall appoint all administrative officers, committee officers, and special committees, subject to confirmation by the State Executive Board at its first meeting subsequent to the appointment.

Executive Vice President - The Executive Vice President shall assist the President with their duties as necessary, act as President in their absence, and be responsible for the organization’s operations. Their scope of responsibility shall consist of designing and implementing internal TNYD operating procedures, establishing policies that promote a healthy and sustainable organizational culture, standardizing the organization’s fundraising practices, outlining tangible goals and responsibilities for administrative officers, and reporting metrics of organizational impact.

Secretary - The Secretary shall take minutes of all meetings of the State Executive Board, publish the notes within one week of adjournment of the meeting, maintain a membership list of the State Executive Board and all other committees, and assist committees with facilitating remote meetings as requested by the committee chair. They shall also be responsible for maintaining non-financial records of the organization, including the minutes of all meetings of the State Executive Board, the Constitution, the Standing Rules, and the formal reports of Officers, and shall perform such other duties as may be assigned by the State Executive Board.

Treasurer - The Treasurer shall be the financial secretary and ensure compliance with all Tennessee Registry of Election Finance (TNREF) and Federal Election Commission (FEC) requirements, including regular reporting as mandated by law. The Treasurer shall also be responsible for overseeing the receipt and disbursement of all funds of the organization, which shall be administered in full compliance with all applicable laws and regulations and deposited in a Federally Chartered and Federally Insured Banking Institution and shall keep a record of receipts and disbursements which shall be audited annually after the end of the TNYD fiscal year or upon demand of the State Executive Board. The Treasurer shall ensure that the organization has general liability insurance and be responsible for maintaining such insurance. The Treasurer shall publish and distribute a Finance Report to the State Executive Board between two (2) and seven (7) days prior to each meeting of the State Executive Board.

Grand Divisional Vice Presidents - The Grand Division Vice Presidents shall act as the liaison to the Grand Division from which they were elected and engage chartered units within that Grand Division. The Grand Divisional Vice Presidents shall also assist the President as necessary, develop and administer programs both within their Grand Division and for the organization, oversee special projects, assist with the organization’s fundraising, and shall appoint all divisional appointments in consultation with their Division’s TNYD Local Chapter presidents.

Membership Coordinator - The Membership Coordinator shall be responsible for developing and executing strategies to attract, retain, and engage members within an organization, overseeing all aspects of membership growth, including recruitment, retention campaigns, and member service to maximize membership value and achieve organizational goals.

Young Democrats of America National Committee Members - The YDA National Committee members shall lobby and vote on behalf of TNYD at every meeting of the YDA National Committee. They shall coordinate the participation of the organization in the YDA National Convention and any other conferences or committees of the YDA National Committee. They shall also provide a written report to the State Executive Board within 14 days of any meeting of the YDA National Committee or YDA National Convention.
Eligibility
In order to be eligible to be an elected officer the following criteria must be satisfied:

Must be a member of TNYD and with membership in good standing;

Shall be 34 years of age or younger in order to be eligible to be elected to an office at the time of the State Convention;

Must be a resident of the State of Tennessee; and

Grand Divisional Vice Presidents and Representatives must be a resident of their respective Grand Division.

Election Process
All officers shall be elected at the biennium statewide convention. Nominations for all offices shall be submitted to the Statewide Convention Chair and Secretary no later than two weeks prior to the Convention. Nominations from the floor may not be permitted, unless nobody declares their intent on running for a specific office then floor nominations may be permitted by the Convention Chair. The Statewide Convention Chair shall announce to the delegates of the Convention the following: “I [Convention Chair] declare that all positions of the State Executive Board to be vacant, and by order of the Chair I call upon the delegates to elect a new State Executive Board for the next term.”

Once this has been announced the Convention Chair will state the following: “By order of the Chair, I call upon the delegates of this convention to select a new Statewide President. By order of the Chair, the following candidates have declared their intent on running: [Name of person] of [County] County from the [Eastern, Middle, Western] Grand Division.” In the event an office has nobody declared, the Statewide Convention Chair shall state the following: “Seeing no declared candidates for [Office], the Chair will entertain nominations from the floor. If you wish to be nominated, please state your name, the county you live in, the grand division you live in, and the office for which you seek election to.”

Elections of officers shall be administered by the Statewide Convention Secretary who shall call upon the roll of the delegates of the convention to state their choice. Each office shall be elected separately. All delegates may vote to elect officers, except for Grand Divisional Vice Presidents and Representatives. Delegates of those respected grand divisions may vote to elect those officers. Once the roll call has concluded, the Convention Secretary is to announce the results of the vote. If a candidate receives a majority vote, that candidate is declared the winner.
